eZangomeni shelter

eZangomeni Shelter is in the Amangwane Traditional Authority Area.

Interpretation by Celeste Rossouw: A large rain-animal or a snake, with an antelope head, is accompanied by many white and red humans. What is of interest are the white dots and lines visible on the human bodies. It is believed that these marks represent spiritual potency flowing and “charging” the shamans with spiritual power to enter trance and to procure rain.

Spiritual potency is only visible to those in an altered state of consciousness. Some smaller therianthropes (humans with antelope heads) are visible on the body of the large snake figure. This also relates to shamans trying to generate rain by manipulating the rain-snake.
