Terms and Conditions when participating on a hike with Drakensberg Hiker

Cancellation policy

If by any chance I cancel the hike a full refund is given. Once a deposit is paid a full refund is given with 30 days’ notice – R100 handling fee. From 29 to 14 days’ notice 50% refund is given. From 13 to 7 days’ notice 20% refund is given. Less than 7 days’ notice there is no refund unless you book another trip or get someone else to fill your spot. It is highly recommended that trip cancellation insurance is obtained with your travel agency. It is compulsory for clients to have comprehensive travel/medical insurance.

Mountain rescue

When we sign the mountain register and pay for the hiking permit mountain rescue is included. We try our best to avoid accidents and sometimes change the planned route to keep everyone safe. However, things do happen. If you need rescue, we call the mountain rescue team who will get you off the mountain. In some cases, an air force helicopter is sent. We get you to either the nearest Drakensberg hotel or a hospital depending on how badly you are hurt. After that your medical aid takes over. However, if you are just tired or don’t like the weather you have to pay for a helicopter.
