Rougham Farm
Rougham Farm is based in the foothills of the majestic Southern Drakensberg Mountains, approximately 22 km south of Underberg toward Swartberg, Kokstad. The 43-hectare farm is run as a sustainable grass-fed beef and sheep farm, and the dry stone walls that grace the hills of Rougham, give it a highland feel, while the river meanders along the valley of the farm.
A variety of accommodation options is offered at Rougham Farm, ranging from a quaint loft unit, a 6-sleeper cottage, and 3 diverse campsites. The loft unit, tucked underneath the trees, features a bedroom on the upper level and a kitchenette and separate bathroom on the lower level. Double doors open out onto a wooden deck which overlooks the stream running into the dam. The 6-sleeper unit features 3 bedrooms, a large kitchen with a gas stove, a dining area with a fireplace and a comfortable lounge. Outside, there is a wrap-around verandah as well as a boma in the garden. This unit is close to the R617 road which can be noisy during busier times.
For those who wish to live closer to nature, there is the rustic and unique camping areas, namely the River Land Camp, the Hilltop Bushcamp, and the Plane Tree Camp. The River Land and Hilltop camps do not have electricity but have ablutions with donkey boilers for hot water and cleaning areas. Here, guests can revert back to the old, simplistic camping styles and enjoy the tranquillity of the farm.
