Route description

Mzimude Pass (North) is the northern fissure route in the Garden Castle area, distinct from Mzimude Pass (South). An earlier descent account describes a steep-sided rocky gully, boulders and rockfall debris. Assess current stability and route choices carefully; the lack of an established trail makes this a demanding mountain route.

Explore the Garden Castle area: Garden Castle is part of the southern uKhahlamba-Drakensberg landscape, with high grasslands, rocky slopes and river valleys. A visit can be planned around the wider reserve as well as individual mountain features. Read our Garden Castle Nature Reserve guide for more about the area and planning a visit.
