Drakensberg Sun to Blue Grotto Pool (return via Barry's Grave) Popular
This is a great 3 hour (6,6km circular route) moderate walk through an indigenous forest to a magnificent grotto with waterfall and pool. The water can be cold as not too much sun shines into the pool.
After the pool head up the hill to Barry's Grave. Dick Barry was one of the early mountaineering pioneers of the area and fell to his death off Monks Cowl in 1938 at the tender age of 22.
The hike starts from in front of the Drakensberg Sun and is one of the most scenic routes in the area.

An Incredible Hike With Mr Protus
My team and I traveled to the Drakensburg and stumbled upon the Blue Grotto Trail hike. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Mr Protus who gave us a safety talk and encouraged team spirit. The hike was really challenging but his passion & resilience rubbed onto us. He was highly knowledgable & super humorous.? And he stuck with us right through till the end. I’d definitely recommend & take hikes with him again 100 times!? We had such an amazing time while taking in the breathtaking views. 200 of 10 experience.❤️??
